One Direction mania grips Wolverhampton
9:55 PMVeraOne Direction mania swept Wolverhampton today as hundreds of teenagers clamoured to get their hands on tickets for the band’s debut tour.
Fans armed with sleeping bags began queuing at the Civic Hall at 2.30pm yesterday and were joined by hundreds more before dawn.
The boyband, including the city’s own Liam Payne, will perform on December 21 and around 1,200 tickets for the performance went on sale at 10am.
The excitement in the queue built to fever pitch with groups of teenage girls taking it in turns to belt out the band’s chart-topper, What Makes You Beautiful.
Security staff were on duty through the night, serving coffee and issuing wristbands. The first 100 people in the queue received a blue wristband guaranteeing them up to four tickets while the next 200 were given a yellow band which should ensure they do not go home empty-handed.
Nicola Noel, aged 15, of Craven Arms, Shropshire was first in the queue yesterday. Nicola revealed she has camped out twice before to see the boys at book signings.
Only 2,215 tickets are available for the all-seated Civic show with the remainder of tickets on sale on websites. Tickets also went on sale today for the band’s date at Birmingham’s NIA on January 4 which was expected to sell out.
