Around 300 Canadian fans waited 35 hours to see the British boys ahead of a gig, camping out in freezing temperatures that at one point plummeted to -10 degrees C, The Sun reports.

Such was the fans’ determination to wait in the cold for Harry, Louis, Niall, Liam and Zayn that ambulance workers had to treat 14 of them.

What’s more, six of the One Directioners had to be taken to hospital and treated for conditions including mild hypothermia and fainting.

Yet when the X Factor band finally arrived at the venue, the boys were quickly ushered inside by police.

One Direction have sparked a new level of hysteria since crossing the pond to embark on a tour of North America, placing number one in the US and Canadian charts last week with debut record Up All Night.

However, there have been reports of tensions within the band as British fans’ favourite Harry Styles is said to be overshadowed by Niall in the affections of US girls, thanks to the Irishman’s all-American look.
